At what could be term as another misused of power by state police force, one 2nd OC of Nambol Police station had allegedly slapped a person for enquiring the reason for arrest of his brother.
Joy Leikangbam (Aged about 38 years), son of L. Mangi of Nambol Chingmang Bhamdier, under Nambol Police station was arrested by a team of Nambol Police as according to a report filed by a neighbour of the accused identified as Sarangthem Sanaton (Age 58 years) on charge of killing a dog at around 10 am yesterday.
In a press conference held today at Manipur Press Club, brother of Joy, Ranjan Leikangbam said that he was slapped by the second OC of Nambol Police Station for enquiring about the reason for arrest of his brother.
He said as he was not at home at the time of his brother’s arrest he went to the police station at around 1 pm and enquired about the FIR no. and reason for arrest of his brother joy.
The 2nd OC allegedly mishandled him with defamatory language and finally slapped him at his face telling him that he did not have any authority to question about the arrest.
Ranjan said he was fainted at the strike and was evacuated to RIMS hospital by members of his family. 3 tooth were seriously affected and is still reported bleeding.
General Secretary of Chingmang Bhamdier Meira Paibi, Atom Memton, who was also present in the press meet vehemently condemn the act of the police officer and appealed concerned government department for taking action against the police officer.
On the other hand the dog died after consuming red cake (a pesticide used to kill red) which were spread under the granary store of Joy’s family.
