Manipur Police on Saturday stated that the overall law-and-order situation in the state remained normal over the past 24 hours, while rejecting media reports alleging that Central Armed Forces conducted operations in Ukhrul district without the presence of state police personnel.
In a statement issued by the Police Control Room, the police said such reports were false and clarified that Manipur Police personnel were present during all combing and area domination operations carried out on April 29, 2026 in the district.
The statement said security forces continued search and area domination operations in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts, resulting in recovery of arms and ammunition. On May 2, an improvised explosive device weighing about 9 kg, a 12 bore rifle and five rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition were recovered from Henjang village under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East district.
Police said intelligence-based combing and search operations were being intensified to curb extortion and other criminal activities. On the same day, a woman identified as Longjam Jenevi alias Thoithoibi Devi, 34, was arrested from Thongjao Mayai Leikai under Waikhong Police Station in Kakching district for alleged links with PREPAK (PRO). In another operation, Takhellambam Soniya Chanu, 46, was arrested from a mobile check post under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district, and 5.56 kg of opium along with a mobile phone was seized from her possession.
The police further stated that movement of 134 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 had been ensured under strict security arrangements, including convoy protection in sensitive stretches.
A total of 112 nakas and checkpoints had been set up across hill and valley districts as part of enhanced security measures.
Appealing to the public, the police urged people not to believe rumours or unverified social media content. It advised that the authenticity of such information could be verified through the Central Control Room helpline number 9233522822, and warned that circulation of false content would attract legal action. The police also appealed for the immediate return of looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the nearest security forces.
