Police Constable shoots Sub-Inspector in Jiribam

A shocking incident occurred today in Jiribam district, where a constable from the Manipur Police fatally shot his colleague during a routine deployment. The tragic event unfolded around 11 AM in Mongbung village, an area currently under heightened security due to ongoing conflicts in the region.
According to preliminary reports, the police constable, who holds a rank below that of his officer, allegedly fired a shot from his service rifle, hitting the Sub-Inspector rank officer. The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, with authorities investigating the motives behind this deadly act.
The deceased Sub-Inspector was identified as Md. ShahJahan a resident of Yaripok Tulihal posted at Jiribam Police Station. The accused police constable was identified as Akoijam Bikram Singh of Naharup Pangong Makhong.
Local sources indicate that the Manipur Police forces had been stationed in Mongbung village to maintain order and ensure the safety of residents amid escalating tensions in the district.
As news of the incident spread, senior officials from the Jiribam Police Station arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The accused Police Constable has been arrested to ascertain the facts surrounding the shooting and to take appropriate action.
