Amid circulating rumours about Kuki volunteers allegedly stopping Meitei travellers near the Mahadeva area while en route to Ukhrul, the Ukhrul Police have issued a clarification to dispel misinformation and maintain public calm.
According to the police, the vehicle stoppage incident that occurred on the night of May 17 at the Sikibung village junction was not carried out by miscreants, but by Tangkhul volunteers. These volunteers were reportedly stationed there as part of confidence-building measures in connection with the ongoing Shirui Lily Festival.
Authorities emphasised that the action was not targeted and reassured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all communities participating in or travelling for the festival.
In view of the sensitive nature of the situation, the police urged citizens not to spread unverified or misleading information. Any concerns or incidents should be promptly reported to the appropriate authorities.
