The Punjab National Bank (PNB), Jiribam branch is the only nationalised bank in the District that provides banking services to the people of Jiribam as well as neighboring districts of Manipur and Assam.
Whereas for the prevention and precautionary measures to break the chain of transmission of the infectious COVID-19 virus, the District Administration under the guideline of Covid-19 regulation permitted the banking services with limited staff on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 2:30 pm. However, the demand of bank customers does not meet, and on the three working days, there seem to be large gatherings in front of Punjab National Bank, Jiribam branch.
It might be recalled here that a few days back the only PNB ATM booth in Jiribam which provided service to the people malfunctioned on its display and remained non-functional for some days. Considering the demands of customers amidst the covid-19, the bank authority repaired it immediately and made it serviceable at present for the convenience of the public. In this newspaper yesterday it mentioned “Unserviceable PNB ATM Booth”. Whereas it should be read as ”Serviceable PNB ATM booth at present”.
The customers of the PNB Jirbam branch appealed to the concerned authority to provide daily banking services so that it will ease the burden of customers to stand on the long queue as well as people of Jiribam urged the authority concerned to open a new branch of SBI in the district in the larger interest of the general public.
