The people of Ningthi village in Kamjong district have alleged complete failure of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) department in ensuring road connectivity in the hill districts of Manipur.
In a statement, Marius Shimray, a social worker from Ningthi, said that the road stretch between Sampui Junction (Kamjong Headquarters) and Ningthi village had remained blocked for weeks due to a major landslide. Despite repeated appeals from the Ningthi Village Authority, the PMGSY department did not respond, forcing villagers to face severe hardships.
Shimray noted that the Assam Rifles eventually stepped in to clear the landslide and restore connectivity, bringing much-needed relief to the affected villagers. He credited the paramilitary force for its swift intervention at a time when the concerned department had failed to act.
He further alleged that the road under PMGSY was never properly constructed, with only a few pebbles scattered in some stretches and without essential components such as drainage, culverts, or retaining walls. According to him, such token works cannot be considered as completion of the project.
