Phungzathang highlights roles of Education Dept to make the state a tobacco free zone

Health Minister Phunzathang Tonsing today highlighted the roles of education department in making the state – a tobacco free zone. Speaking during the inaugural function of the Campaign for Tobacco Free North East and Regional Workshop for NTCP at Jubilee Hall RIMS, Tonsing said that the state Health Department alone cannot control the use of tobacco among the youths and the education department need to introduce various programme to spread awareness among the students about the ill effect of Tobacco products.The health Minister further said that the state health department needs to conduct a survey about the root of tobacco used in the state. He said due to the rise of tobacco, cancer patient are in the rise in the state. “ It is only after the findings of the survey that the tobacco used can be controlled in the state”, Tonsing said.Earlier a rally was staged by students of various school carrying placards for making the region free from tobacco.
