The Manipuri feature film “PHOUOIBEE (The Goddess of Paddy)”, directed by Rakesh Moirangthem, has been officially selected for the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) 2025, one of Asia’s most prestigious film events accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Association (FIAPF). The festival, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal, will be held from November 6 to 13 at Nandan, Kolkata.
PHOUOIBEE has been selected to compete in the Competition on Indian Languages’ Film Category, which showcases outstanding works created in India’s diverse linguistic traditions. The film portrays the sacred bond between nature, spirituality, and agrarian life in Manipur, blending mythology and social realism into a deeply evocative cinematic experience.
The cast includes Raju Nong, Y. Kumarjit, Ch. Inaobi, Loitongbam Dorendra, and Sushma Kshetri, with Bloomy Khwairakpam featured as the child artist. The film’s music is composed by Tenao HD, while Thokchom Lansana Chanu contributes as both singer and lyricist.
Behind the scenes, Boong Konjengbam serves as the cinematographer, Th. Ramakanta as sound designer, and Romi Lamabam as audiographer. The story is penned by Rakesh Moirangthem, Somendro Moirangthem, and Jenish Salam, with screenplay and dialogues by Y. Kumarjit. The film is produced by Suraj Khongbantabam, co-produced by Shanti Raj, edited by Rakesh Moirangthem, and features makeup design by Bicha.
