Phase-II election campaign gear up: Of the 92 candidates in the fray, 3 candidates have declared cases related to Crime Against women

Of the 92 candidates contesting the 2nd phase Manipur legislative assembly election to be held in 22 assembly constituencies on March 5, three (3) candidates have declared that they have cases related to crime against women. Of them one candidate has declared case related to rape crime under section 376 of the IPC. As per report of the ADR Manipur Election watch one candidate has declared cases related to attempt to murder under section 307 of the IPC. 2 female candidates are contesting in this election.
The report said that of the 10 candidates of the JD(U) 4 have criminal cases, 4 out of 18 candidates of the INC have criminal cases, 2 out of the 11 NPP candidates and 1 out of the 22 BJP candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
Interestingly former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh of Congress which is contesting from Thoubal Assembly constituency has the maximum number of criminal cases registered against him among all the 92 candidates for the second phase of polls to be held on March 5.
According to ADR report Ibobi has declared four cases, which include four charges related to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, two charges related to criminal breach of trust by a public servant, or by a banker, merchant or agent, two charges related to punishment for criminal breach of trust, four charges related to punishment of criminal conspiracy, two charges related to dishonest misappropriation of property and two charges related to acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
Three of his cases are registered with Enforcement Directorate. The fourth case, which was registered by the state vigilance and anti-corruption wing, was later transferred to CBI. No charges in any of the four cases have been framed yet.
