PFA seizes 70 bags of mussel

People For Animal (PFA) seized 70 bags of mussel from Keitheilmanbi while transporting towards Imphal from Assam.
This was revealed in a press held at the office of PFA by L. Bishojit, Managing Trusty of PFA. He said that the mussels have been seized from DI Tata (MN 06L-5337). The approximate value of the seized mussels in the local market is estimated to be 48,000.
He further said that mussel is a very important aquatic animal as it purifies 4 litres of water in an hour. If we consistently fish it out of water for commercial purposes, they cannot purify water.  Around 1,36,800 litres of water can be purified by a bag of mussel in an hour. He further said that persons who run mussel business can be arrested under Biological Diversity Act-2002 and Indian Forest Act-1927.
The mussel bags were seized under the supervision of Additional SP, Imphal West, Ibomcha by PFA and personnel of Keithelmanbi Police Out Post led by OC P. Suraj.
