State govt. sets to extend license for the Petroleum Exploration for another 3 year

License provided to the Jubilant Oil and Gas Pvt. Ltd. by the state government for conducting Petroleum Exploration at various places of Jiribam (Imphal East), Tamenglong, and Churachandpur districts of Manipur has been has been expired on November 15, 2015, however the state government is all set to grant license for another 3 more year. Source told to Imphal Times that the drilling work for the 30 well at various locations of the said districts in Manipur were conducted without getting environmental clearance from the Ministry of Forest and Environment.. As the Jubilant Oil and Gas Private Limited seeks three more years the state government had started proceeding for extension of the license even as there is no environmental clearance.
Government of India, through its Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, granted license to Jubiliant Oil and Gas Private Limited, a company based in Netherlands, for exploration and drilling works in two oil blocks in Manipur. The contracts were awarded under the eighth round of New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) of the Government of India. The Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for the Manipur oil Block I, codenamed AA-ONN-2009/1, and the Petroleum Exploration License (PEL), was granted by the Manipur Government on 23rd September, 2010 for a period of 4 years. The total oil potential in Manipur is nearly 5 Trillion Cubic Feet altogether in the Abin, Kharkhublien, Taithu, Sialman, Laimata, Oinamlong anticlines in the two oil blocks of Manipur.
