People must unite against drug abuse: Tahibur Rahman

A programme marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held at Khabeisoi Community Hall, jointly organised by People Welfare Organization, Khabeisoi Youth Library and Sporting Association (KHYLSA), 7th Battalion Manipur Rifles, 8th IRB (CDO) Battalion, Khabeisoi, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department.

Speaking as a resource person, KHYLSA Vice President Tahibur Rahman said the programme was organised to help protect people, particularly the younger generation, from the growing menace of drug addiction in the state.

He said drug abuse not only destroys individuals but also seriously affects families and society, and contributes to various forms of violence. Calling for collective action, he urged the public to unite and raise a strong voice against drugs.

Another resource person, Senior Medical Officer of 7th Manipur Rifles Dr. Kangujam Dingo, highlighted the harmful effects of addictive substances and stressed the need for society to work together to combat drug abuse. He said the damage caused by narcotic substances is widely known and called for greater awareness and stronger efforts to prevent their use and trafficking.

The programme was attended by 7th MR Commandant Sarda Laishram and 8th IR (CDO) Battalion Commandant W. Singhajeet. Retired psychiatrist Dr. Haobijam Angomcha also participated as a resource person.
