Pensioner returns back empty-handed as Govt. Treasury office ran out of money

IT News
Imphal, Aug 09:

Many aged pensioners are now returning back home without getting their small amount of pension money as the authority of the treasury office refuses to pay the pension money saying that the state treasury office has run out of money.

Officially, there has not been any mention of the overdue of the state treasury. However, when the pensioner went to withdraw the monthly pension, they were left with no choice but to return back empty-handed.

65 years old Tondonbi (not real name) from Khurai area, who survives on her departed husband pension, who had worked in the Education department of the state government with her 4 wards today went to the bank (UBI) to enquire about the pension money. The bank authority said that the pension money has not been deposited to the bank by the government authority and advice her to enquire about it to the State Treasury office. She later went to the treasury office and the authority there told her that they had completed all formality for disbursements of the pension money but as the government has no funds it is unlikely that the pension money shall be deposited to the respective bank.

It is not about Tondonbi only, it is about the whole of the pensioners. At this hard time, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, pensioners are unlikely to get their pension this month as the state treasury is bankrupt.
