Patroitic song competition in memory of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot held

Imphal, Sept 21: A patriotic song competition in memory of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was held today at GM Hall Imphal in commemoration to the day when Hijam Irabot went underground after the Pungdombam incident on this day of 1948.
The inaugural function of the competition organised jointly by the Manipur Proletariat Peoples Democratic Union (MPPDU), Socialist Students Union of Manipur (SSUM) and Struggle Committee of Manipur (SCM) was attended by Shrimayum Nabakumar Sharma , Principal, Kha Manipur Hindustani Sangeet Maha Vidyalaya, Kakching, Ahongsangbam Bhagirath Singh, Principal, District College of Arts and Culture Keinou, Ibotombi Konthoujam, Cultural Training Institute, Oinam , Ahongsangbam Premkumar Singh, Member, MBCWD, Govt. of Manipur, Rinku Kh. Editor Imphal Times and Nameirakpam Meghachandra Meitei, President, Manipur Proletariat Peoples Democratic Union as presidium members.
In his key note address Secretary of SSUM, N. Tonaranjan elaborated on the needs for remembering the pioneer leader Hijam Irabot. He said the three organisations felt it important to remember today as today is the day Hijam Irabot went underground planting the seed of revolutionary movement in the region. He said that the present generation need to follow the path of the leader  and organising the day revive the essence of patriotism to each and every citizen of the state.
President of MPPDU, Nameirakpam Meghachandra, while speaking on the occasion recalls on why the day is remembered and how Hijam Irabot sacrificed the materialistic world for the sake of the people of the land. He recalled on the moved by Irabot to the India government attempt for formation of Purvachand Pradesh by accumulating Manipur, Tripura and Chachar district of Assam.
Ahongsangbam Premkumar, Singh, Member MBSWD, Government of Manipur said that the spirit of patriotism is seen to the student leaders of the SSUM and other fellow organisations organising the day. He said that it is not plantation alone but also growing the trees that the society needed today.  
Principal of Kha Manipur Hindustani Shangit Maha Bidyalaya Shrimayum Nabakumar Sharma recalls on the love for arts and culture of the pioneer leader.
Around 45 participants took part in the patriotic song competition.
