As observed at various parts of the state, District Administration Kangpokpi also observed Patriots’ Day yesterday as a mark of respect to the selfless sacrifice made by our forefathers who laid down their lives fighting the British during the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891.
The function was held at the multipurpose hall Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Kangpokpi. Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi Lalithambigai K, IAS led the officials in paying floral tributes to the portraits of BirTikendrajit, Paona Brajabashi and Thangal General.
Later in her address to the gathering, the DC stated that Patriots’ Day is being observed every year across the state in memory of state heroes BirTikendrajit, Paona Brajabashi, General Thangal and others who laid down their lives fighting the British during the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891.She further added that we should never forget the selfless sacrifice of the freedom fighters of Manipur who fiercely fought the mighty British Empire.
ADC, Kangpokpi LalramsangInfimate, SDO KaigoulalKipgen and other officers and staff also attended the function.
Also, District administration Chandel observed PATRIOTS’ Day at the DRDA hall, DC complex Chandel. Yesterday’s observance starts with floral tributes and two minutes silence in honour of the great Martyrs.
In yesterday’s function Deputy Commissioner, Chandel said that yesterday is a very special day for the people in Manipur. Reiterating the events which led to the Anglo Manipuri War, he said that despites being overwhelmed by the British army our forefathers fought bravely and made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.
He further said that now it is our turn to do our duties and perform our responsibilities to make Manipur a more peaceful and prosperous state, he added that Manipur is one of the most beautiful states of the country and also hope that it also become the most developed state of the country. He concluded by saying that everybody should contribute to make Manipur the most peaceful, prosperous and a more develop state of the country.
Speaking on the occasion Somorjit Singh, Commandant, 8th MR, reiterated the events which led to the Anglo Manipuri War, talking about the spirit of observing the PATRIOTS’ DAY, he said that we should learn from our history and should not make the same mistakes again. He appealed to all the people to unite and work for a better and prosperous Manipur.
Yesterday’s observance was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Chandel, SDO Chandel, DLOs and many other dignitaries and officials of the district.
