Parents worried over the quality of food supplements to Anganwadi centres

Imphal, Nov.28: Despite having numerous food factories here in the state of Manipur, department of Social Welfare Govt. of Manipur has been supplying the food supplements for children at Anganwadi Centres from company located at New Delhi.
What is more alarming is the tag written in the package food supplement which wrote “For ICDS Manipur only” instead of writing “Not for sales, for ICDS only”, as done by some other Anganwadi food supplement supplied at other states.
The food supplements for Anganwadi centers here in the state are supplied by a Ddelhi based company called Continental Milkose (India) Ltd. Nutrill Gold” Micronutrient Fortified Energy Dense Food are some of the items supplied at which all have tags of “For ICDS Manipur only”.
Food safety department of the state had never checked the quality of the food even as the company have FSSAI license.
Some parents now question the specific reason for using the tag ‘“For ICDS Manipur only” as they suspect foul play in the quality of the food supplements for their children.
Takhellambam Ranitombi, a mother of two daughters said that, she wanted the authority of the Safety department to check the quality of the food supplement being provided to her children.
“Such tag are not seen in other food supplements supplied by Guwahati based Company Rausheena Udyog Limited, why this Delhi base company is writing the tag “For ICDS Manipur only”, She asked.
On the other hand children of the state need food supplements which are produced in the soil of the state as food habit need to be adapted with the kind of consumption being taken by the people of the soil. Why should the Social welfare department buy the food supplements from a Delhi base company when our states have many food production units?”, Meneka Thangjam another mother told this reporter.
