The People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress in Manipur (PAPPM) has strongly condemned recent statements issued by the self-styled “Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee” and the “Kuki Human Rights Council”, describing them as inflammatory, misleading, and divisive.
In a press statement issued by its President M. Bobby Singh, PAPPM said the statements were riddled with falsehoods, lacked any constitutional basis, and appeared to be a calculated attempt to reignite tensions and undermine the fragile peace in the state. The organisation reaffirmed that Manipur is an integral and indivisible part of the Republic of India and rejected the narrative of a so-called “Kuki–Meitei boundary buffer zone,” noting that no such entity exists legally or constitutionally.
PAPPM recalled the official clarification by Manipur Police on May 21, 2024, which had stated that security deployments in sensitive areas were preventive measures to deter violence and restrict the movement of miscreants, and did not represent any boundaries, zones of separation, or territorial reorganisation. The alliance said any claim otherwise constituted deliberate disinformation aimed at misleading the public and inciting discord.
The organisation also expressed concern over the opposition by separatist-aligned groups to lawful identification and deportation of illegal immigrants, stressing that indigenous and law-abiding residents, including Kukis, largely supported such measures. PAPPM highlighted that unchecked illegal immigration, often linked with organised narcotics and poppy cultivation, had destabilised the state and eroded the rule of law.
PAPPM urged State and Central authorities to act decisively against individuals or organisations issuing provocative, misleading, or secessionist statements. It reaffirmed its commitment to peace, constitutional governance, and the unity and integrity of Manipur and India, calling upon all communities to uphold social harmony and reject attempts to fracture the state’s social fabric.
