Panthou introduces indigenous chanting tradition to worship deity

IT News
Imphal, May 23:

In a significant cultural event, a Meitei religious leader, affectionately referred to by his followers as ‘Panthou,’ introduced an indigenous chanting tradition while offering prayers to the Meitei Indigenous deity. Speaking to members of the media at the Nongpok Chingu Thong Meitei Laikol Thali Sipi Lok Seloi Langmai Ching in Imphal East district, the religious leader expressed that the Meitei Khunung Eshei, which encompasses sounds from nature’s orchestra such as bird songs, forest sounds, and children’s cries, forms the essence of their songs to appease the divine.
In a demonstration of this tradition, he performed and led the chanting for his followers, emphasizing the significance of these indigenous chants in their spiritual practices. The introduction of such rituals underscores the continued preservation and celebration of Meitei cultural heritage in the region.
