Padma Shri Kunjarani hoists Salai Taret Flag at Cheiroaching, promotes hill cleanliness

The Commandant of Group Center CRPF and Padma Shri Nameirakpam Kunjarani today ceremoniously replaced the Salai Taret flag with a new one mounted on an iron pole at Cheiroaching in Imphal. The programme was jointly organized with the Naharol Leishemba Club, Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
Speaking at the event, Kunjarani said she undertook the flag replacement out of her deep love for her motherland. “While representing Manipur and India in sports, I could not personally carry the Salai Taret flag. However, as a player, I have often visited Cheiroaching since my early days. After offering prayers and seeking blessings here, I was selected for the 1989 Asian Games,” she recalled.
Over the past year, she added, she has regularly climbed Cheiroaching and had long cherished the desire to offer a Salai Taret flag. Today, she fulfilled that wish by placing the flag at the hilltop, marking the occasion with reverence and pride.
Maibam Jashobanta, Secretary of Naharol Leishemba Club, said Kunjarani also assisted in clearing litter from seven scattered areas on the hill during the programme, demonstrating her commitment to environmental preservation.
Kunjarani emphasized the importance of maintaining the hill’s environment, noting that cleaning helps prevent erosion and protects the natural landscape from damage caused by rainfall. She said that collected waste, including empty plastic bottles, was deposited in the Plastic Bottle Bank to ensure proper disposal.
