Over 150 loaded trucks ferrying essential commodities towards Imphal stranded at Senapati

Over 150 loaded trucks ferrying essential commodities toward Imphal from Dimapur are reportedly stranded at Lairou area in Senapati district due to the blockade called by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU).
According to a driver of the trucks stranded at Lairou in Senapati district, the trucks have been stranded in the area since August 18. Even after 10 days, the government has not sent any security personnel to protect them or to escort them toward Imphal. The driver said that they are now facing hardships as their journey money has been exhausted. Some of the drivers and the handymen too have started getting illness.
“There are no medicines, no doctors to treat us, and besides that we don’t have food to eat”, a driver told through phone called. The drivers said that some of the edible items that the trucks were carrying were being shared among the drivers and the handymen.
