‘Over 1.15 lakhs dogs and cats vaccinated to combat rabies’

Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister Govindas Konthoujam today said that his dept. has vaccinated a total of 1,15,580 dogs and cats from January 13 to January 24 this year as a measures to combat the outbreak of Rabies virus in the state. Replying a question asked by MLA Shyamkumar during question hour during the ongoing state legislative assembly session, Govindas Konthoujam said, “ 1,15,220 numbers of dogs and 360 numbers of cats have been vaccinated w.e.f. 13/1/2015 to 24-2-2015”.
The Minister further said that Rapid Action Team for 9 district and three sub divisions of Jiribam, Moreh and Kngpokpi were formed and they have been provided with anti Rabies Vaccines & Logistics and remained vigilant till the disease was fully under control. He further added that the department will continue Free Mass Vaccination covering 80% of dog population, conduct of Awareness Programme on Rabies, in future, the department shall make available Buffer Stock of Anti Rabies Vaccine and the department aims for strengthening of disease Investigation Laboratory for diagnosis of Rabies.
