Orange Festival Inaugurated amidst Boycott call by UNC

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today inaugurated 11th Orange Festival at Mini Stadium Tamenglong district Head quarter today amidst boycott called by UNC. The festival which is being organised to promote orange growers of Tamenglong district was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam. A total of 302 farmers are taking part in the festival and this year’s best orange grower was awarded to Akim. Akenbi Golmei and Midsagar were awarded 2nd and 3rd best orange grower of this year. The best grower caries a sum of rupees 1.5 lakhs , 2nd 1 lakh and the 3rd carries rupees 75 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Okram Ibobi calls those boycotting the event as anti people and group of people who wanted to sabotage the developmental works in Tamenglong District. He thank the people of the district as well as the orange grower who defy the dictate and take part in the festival. He said government is planning to open a cold storage in Tamenglong district head quarters to preserved the orange all the year round. The cold storage will be constructed by DRDA and the state Horticulture department. About Tamenglong district Chief Minister said the region will become one of the tourist destination as the district is going to have the highest bridge in the world. He was talking about the proposed railway bridge coming up in the district. Besides he said that a sum of rupees 277 crores had been granted by the Asian Development Bank for taking up various development works of the district. On the lack of specialists doctor in the district hospital Chief Minister said that specialist doctors wil be sent on rotation basis every one month.  Okram Ibobi also highlighted the various other developmental works being taken up in Tamenglong district.
