One TA Engineer killed in grenade attacked to the Territorial Army camp

Imphal, Nov 4: At least one Territorial Army Engineer was killed on a grenade attacked by the miscreants suspected to be cadres of rebel group at 155th TA battalion post located at Old Airport Koirengei under Heingang Police station yesterday. The miscreants reportedly lobbed two hand grenade but another missed to explode. The unexploded grenade was retrieved this morning by a combined team of Heingang Police and the Territorial Army.

The incident took place at around 8:15 pm of Monday. The attack happened when the TA personnel were taking rest at their respective barrack located on the eastern side of the National Highway 2 opposite to the Luwangsangbam Mamang Leikai (locally known as Houtabi).

The deceased TA personnel has been identified as one Lance Naik Jagga Singh of 29 Assam Rifle from 107 Engineer Regiment C/O 99 APO from Pune. According to the police source the grenade blasted just above his head. It was probably hurled from the roadside. He was immediately evacuated to the Military Hospital at Leimakhong but was declared brought dead.

A team of Imphal East District Police Commando led by inspector Vaiphei and Heingang Police team along with the team of Manipur Bomb disposal squad inspected the blast site this morning. The team retrieved a Chinese Hand grenade which failed to explode in yesterday’s attacked.

The retrieved Chinese Hand grenade was disposed near the camp by the bomb squad team at around 9:30 am today. A case has been registered by the Heingang Police and the decease personnel has been shifted to the JNIMS mortuary for Post Mortem.
