One more person injured in the firing incident at Kailenjang village in Senapati district has succumbed to his injuries, raising the death toll to three.
The incident occurred yesterday evening at the residence of Kailenjang Village Chief Lhinjahoi Hangshing, where suspected Kuki militants reportedly opened fire, leaving several people injured.
One of the injured, identified as Sani Osah of Shajapba village, succumbed to his injuries at around 5 am today while undergoing treatment at Gatewell Hospital, Senapati.
Another injured person, identified as Adani Manio of Micheal village, is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital. His condition was reported to be critical.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to District Hospital, Senapati, where post-mortem examinations were conducted.
The incident has triggered grief and concern among the Naga community. A condolence service is expected to be held, followed by a traditional mourning ceremony after completion of the necessary formalities.
The firing came amid continuing tensions in parts of Senapati district, with security concerns remaining high in areas inhabited by different communities.
