A violent clash over a land dispute between Shangching village and Lungreiphung Tang in Ukhrul district claimed one life and left five others injured around 2 pm today.
The deceased has been identified as Ramyon RK (36), son of Ramlung RK of Shangching village. Three other villagers from Shangching—Aron RK (36), Joseph RK (54), and Peter RK (73)—sustained bullet injuries, while Rejoice RK (34) and Ningshang RK (60) from Lungreiphung Tang were also hit during the confrontation.
The injured were initially treated at the Assam Rifles post in Shangshak, with the critically wounded later shifted to Imphal for advanced medical care.
In response to the incident, Additional District Magistrate Polly Makan has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the disputed area under Shangshak police station to prevent further escalation.
SDC Hanyo Luke Rungsung has been appointed as the Executive Magistrate to oversee the volatile zone, while Ukhrul and Shangshak police personnel have been deployed to maintain peace.
