Chandel, Oct. 2:  

A one day workshop for  policy makers &Administrators   under the Nature Learning Centre , National Mission on Himalayan Studies(NMHS), ministry of environment , forest and climate change , government of India was organised by the Divisional forest office, Chandel at the DC complex Mini Secretariat yesterday.

The inaugural function of the  program were attended the Vice Chairman ADC, S Tongpao Matte, deputy commissioner, Chandel, Krishna Kumar,  Addl. PCCF, Dr. Lokho Puni, CO, 18 AR, Ajit Khatri, Addl. SP Chandel, DFO, Chandel, N. Ganesh .

Today’s workshop was divided into three Technical sessions, of which Forest conservation Act, 1980, Adverse effect of Poppy cultivation& forest fire, and Protection and conservation of Wildlife  including prevention of smuggling were the main topic discussed.

Speaking on the occasion S Tongpao expressed that the council will always cooperate with the district administration when ever any requirement comes, Dr. Lokho Puni speaking on the occasion said that for any development and earning process specially in the hill areas, whether its agricultural, fishery or any other farming activities water is a much but the water sources are diminishing due to deforestation. He further said that the individual acts of cutting and burning down of forest areas for jhum and hunting etc are creating problems for all, so communities should start taking active part in preserving the for forest areas. And the district officials are there for any expert advises to the community leaders. He also asked the district level officers to motivate the villagers to take active part this  endeavours.

Deputy commissioner, Chandel, Krishna Kumar, said that there is no second opinion that we have to save and preserve or forest but there seems to be lack of awareness amongst the villagers, and amongst the various district level officers regarding the legal frameworks, and expressed that today’s workshop will help in sensitising the district level departments their roles and responsibilities

CO, 18 AR, Ajit Khatri, speaking on the occasion said that, being an executive agency and being posted in various remote and last village areas, they are well aware of the problems, like shortages of water, face by the villagers as they also face the same problems. They had been playing an active role by providing information to the district administrations, regarding the deforestation, he said that the agency has been taking active part in afforestation processes by not only planting of saplings  but also making sure they survive and grow.  Today’s function was also attended by various DLOs, and front line officials
