Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) organised a one day sensational workshop on Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.Attending the function as Chief Guest, A. Nabachandra, Chairperson, MCPCR, said the body has taken up 50 cases regarding implementation of various juvenile justice acts such as RTE, POCSO and many others. There are four categories under RTE Act, 2009; right to survival, right to development, right to protection and right to participation. MCPCR is a monetary body which is trying its best to implement the Act in each corner of the state, added Nabachandra.Speaking on the topic of ‘an overview of the RTE Act, 2009’ K. Maharabi Singh, Member of MCPCR, said RTE Act, 2009 is a fundamental right of children for free and compulsory elementary education (class I to VIII) to all the children in the age group of 6 to 14 years. Under the Act, the students should be given admission without any school fees or no screening should be done.Lammilian Vaiphei, Member of MCPCR also attended the workshop as Guest of Honour.
