Chandel, Feb 27:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with Purum Pantha Snu Lup, successfully organized a one-day seminar on “Rights of Women & POCSO Act, 2012” at the Purum Pantha Community Hall in Chandel District. The program, aimed at raising awareness about Women’s Rights and Child Protection Laws, commenced at 10:00 a.m.
The event was graced by the presence of Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women, along with commission members T. Choungsin Koireng and Sk. Sophia Moyon. Additional SP (Operations) of Chandel, TS Chamna Anal, and the Chief of Purum Pantha Village, Sk. Jeevan, also participated as presidium members.
During the technical session, Lv. Robert, a counselor from the CAF & PD Department, Government of Manipur, and Darngam Khaling, Member Secretary of the Child Welfare Committee, Tengnoupal District, delivered insightful talks on the “Rights of Women & POCSO Act, 2012.” The speakers emphasized that awareness and knowledge of these rights are essential, as many individuals still lack proper information about them. They encouraged women to be proactive in understanding their rights to address challenges effectively.
In her keynote address, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang underscored the importance of such awareness programs. She urged both women and the general public to educate themselves about their legal rights and protections under the POCSO Act, 2012.
The seminar was attended by community leaders and stakeholders, including Pastor Sk. Angkham of Purum Pantha Baptist Church; President of Purum Pantha Snu Lup, Sk. Lucky; Secretary J. Leena, and members of the Purum Pantha Women Society. Their participation highlighted the collective effort required to ensure women’s rights and child safety.
