Imphal, July 4:

The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur and Minuthong Hatta Golapati Athletic Union (MHGAU) jointly organised a one-day public discussion on the present scenario in Manipur. BM Yaima Shah in his keynote address said that the cause and genesis of the present violence engulfing the state is clear to one and all. The conflict did not stem from the demand of Scheduled Tribe status by the Meitei. The main cause comes from those who cultivated poppy and foreigners who illegally settled in reserved forest areas inside the state. The Manipur state government was destroyed by illegally settled people in the reserved forests, and from these illegal settlements the foreigners started war. If they want to demand the right, they can demand to the government. Why do they target the Meitei community? Behind this, they have a hidden agenda,” said BM Yaima.
He further highlighted the relationship with Meitei Pangal and said “We are blood relations with Meitei. We also opened three relief camps at Kwakta for the Meitei brothers and sisters”. Th. Manihar, President of FOCS expressed that the main objective for organising a one-day public discussion on the present scenario in Manipur is to take part in the protection of the state’s integrity. They have also shared to protect Manipur. Manihar further expressed that fifty thousand personnel from the India paramilitary force and army were sent to Manipur. He said the government and MLAs need to take a resolution to withdraw all AR and army troops from Manipur and to deploy state security force in the peripheries of the valley.
In this war external forces are working in nexus with Chin-Kuki terrorists. Adding that the Indian defence force cannot defend itself, so deploying Manipur state force in the periphery areas is essential. He further expressed that it is very unfortunate that the defence minister and union ministers are still silent. And the 60 MLAs should work together and take a firm decision to restore peace in the state. The one-day public discussion on the present scenario in Manipur was attended by Angom Punil, general secretary of FOCS, Alhaj Iliyash, Alhaj Abdul Noor Retd Joint Director H & SC, Md Abdul Malik advisor MHGAU, Md Abdul Hussain, Md Badalkhan and other members.
