One day Brainstorming Session on Model Manipur Unified Building Bye-Laws 2024 held in Thoubal

A one-day workshop on the Model Manipur Unified Building Bye-Law 2024 was held today at the Conference Hall of the Thoubal Municipal Council. The programme was jointly organised by the Manipur Architects’ Forum (MAF) and the Thoubal Municipal Council, and sponsored by the Town Planning Department, Government of Manipur.
The progamme was attended by Ngangbam Jogendra Khumancha, Director (MAHUD) and Secretary Planning & Department Authority Manipur, Kh. Bishworjit Singh, Caretaker Chairperson Thoubal Municipal Council, K. Ito Singh, Caretaker Chairperson Yairipok Municipal Council, Ibemcha, Caretaker Chairperson Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Council and N. Benju, Chief Town Planner as dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering as dignitaries Chief Town Planner Ar. N. Benju Singh said that architects play a crucial role in proper planning before any building construction begins. Constructing buildings without approved permissions can lead to unsafe living conditions. He emphasised the need for the public to consult appropriate departments before undertaking construction works. Unscientific construction practices pose serious risks, and therefore adherence to building bye-laws, guidelines, and planning regulations issued by the Town Planning Department, Manipur, is essential for orderly development.
During the programme, awareness was also created among the public regarding the Thoubal Municipal Building Bye-Laws, 2025, Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Building Bye-Laws, 2025 and Yairipok Municipal Council Bye-Laws, 2025. President of Manipur Architects’ Forum, Ar Gitkumar Nepram also conducted a detailed technical session as the Resource Person on the Model Manipur Unified Building Bye-Laws, 2024.
Members of the Manipur Architects’ Forum, caretaker councillors of the Thoubal Municipal Council, caretaker chairpersons of Lilong and Yairipok Municipal Councils, as well as representatives of various CSOs, clubs, and other participants also took part in the Brainstorming Session.
