Based on the theme, ‘End it Now’ a one-day-long awareness campaign on drug abuse and Financial awareness program was held at Changda village 81 kilometre from the district headquarter on Sunday.
Qr. Ringthing Hongchui Adl SP, Ukhrul, and TS.John Monsang, Branch Manager SBI Ukhrul were the main resource person during the awareness program.
Ringthing in his speech stated that availing drugs from an early age is dangerous as it not only affects the individual but to the whole family and community as a whole, moreover they have a higher chance of becoming drug addicts easily. So parents and elders should take extra care when children come to encounter drugs, he appealed.
John said it is always better to stay away from drug menace so based on the theme, End it now is the best medicine before any unwanted experience so he apprised the gathering to give serious thoughts and act from now on.
Further John informed the villagers to take the benefit of Bank loans and insurance policies where the facilities are readily available in SBI and other bank branches.
The awareness program was also taken up at Maichon and L Phungthar villages where Dr.Yuithingla Vashum, DACO was the main resource person.
It is pertinent to mention that recently around 52 acres of Poppy plants were destroyed by Ukhrul police on the mountain periphery of this village. In connection with the farmer’s issue, the Ukhrul district Tangkhul NGOs led by Ngamreiwung Horam president of WCAD in collaboration with other NGOs of the district have been disseminating an awareness campaign on drugs abuse to around 18 villages for a couple of months back and yesterday itself three villages that are Michon,L Phungthar , Aphung Champhung, and Changta villages were covered.
Amongst others, the programme was also exhorted by Qr. Thotreihan Ruivah, Social Worker, Vaomi Shangh, SNM, Anthony Zimik, DAPCU, Shimthar Athary, PASDO and Wungnaosung Zimik, LWS/SPYM.
The programme was organised by District Administration, SBI, DAPCU, Police department, WCAD, LWS / SPYM, CARE, PASDO & SNM, Ukhrul district.
