Once more PM Modi uses Leirum phee while inaugurating Kashi Vishwanath Corridor at Varanasi, CM Biren expresses happiness

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today expressed his pride on witnessing Prime Minister Narendra Modi wearing state’s traditional cloth ‘Leirum’ designed as ‘Lengyan’ during a prayer & follow up dip in Ganga before inaugurating the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Sharing a photo of PM Modi wearing ‘Lengyan’ in a Facebook post today, chief minister Biren Singh wrote, “Mesmerising visual of Hon’ble PM Sri @naredramodi Ji taking a dip in Maa Ganga to offer Ardhaya to Suryadev. Delighted that Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji is wearing our traditional ‘Leirum’ on such a historic day at Kashi.”
Manipur’s traditional ‘Leirum Phee’ has cultural, historical, and emotional importance for the people from Manipur.
Considering its importance, the state’s Directorate of Handloom & had reportedly started the process of acquiring a geographical indication (GI) tag for it.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already publicized Manipur Lengyan after he wore it during his address to the nation in 2020 on extending the lockdown restrictions due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak.
In Manipur, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised the Kashi Vishwanath Dham yatra programme virtually at Heibok Mahadev temple at Hiyangthang. The online video conference was attended by A Sarda Devi as Chief Guest while Sh Premananda Sharma State prabhari attended as president.
