The monthly pensions for October were distributed today to differently abled individuals in the Singjamei Assembly Constituency, at a function held at the residence of Oinam Romen Singh, a political activist from the constituency, who sponsored the initiative. A total of 137 differently abled and elderly individuals each received a pension of one thousand rupees during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Oinam Romen Singh said “it is an indispensable responsibility for him to give aid to such individuals. Such persons also play a vital role in society. They can do a lot more than a normal person. They have gifted power. Such individuals cannot be underestimated. The Monthly Pension has been distributed for the past one decade only from his pocket money, not getting anything from others. He highlighted the need to provide aid to such individuals at this crucial juncture. Only some of the individuals get benefits from the government but with minimal amounts. The others do not get anything from the government.”
He urged the government to provide something for them as they are reeling under helpless conditions. Their livelihood solely depends upon the family members. It is very unfortunate, Romen Singh asserted.
Romen reiterated that he will continue proving aid to such individuals and take initiative to uplift their livelihood also and not to take any political mileage. He further added that politics and philanthropy are quite different and requested other people to help them. The government needs to introduce a special scheme for them so that their livelihood cannot depend upon others.
Romen expressed disappointment in the lack of actions of the government and so called public leaders as well.
