NVG warns against attacks on Naga civilians

IT Correspondent
Ukhrul, June 21:
The Naga Village Guard (NVG), Western Command, has issued a strong warning against continued attacks on Naga civilians and disruptions along public roads, while condemning the killing of a Naga farmer near Joujangtek.

In a statement titled “Final Warning to Kuki Terror Factions and Clarification on Recent Incidents,” the NVG rejected allegations that Nagas were involved in the recent attack on Nohjang at Joujangtek. The organisation claimed the incident stemmed from internal conflicts among rival Kuki militant factions and urged Kuki organisations to refrain from what it termed as attempts to shift blame onto the Naga community.

The NVG also strongly condemned the killing of Wilson Thanga, an unarmed Naga farmer, near Joujangtek on May 13, describing the incident as a grave act of violence. It stated that the Naga community had exercised restraint in the interest of peace but warned that further attacks on Naga civilians would not be tolerated.

The organisation further demanded an immediate end to alleged harassment of commuters, intimidation of villagers, and obstruction of the Tongjei Maril Road (Old Cachar Road). It cautioned that any future attacks on Naga villagers or disruption of public peace would be viewed seriously.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Naga villages and communities, the NVG called for justice for victims of violence and urged all parties to uphold peace, accountability and respect for the rights of all communities.
