NVG orders strict enforcement of TNL boycott on Kuki community

Imphal, July 3:
The Eastern Command of the Naga Village Guard (NVG) has issued a directive ordering the strict enforcement of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL)’s declaration to sever civic and economic ties with the Kuki community, warning of punitive action against anyone found violating the order.

According to the directive signed by the Commander of the Eastern Command, the enforcement came into effect on July 2, 2026, and applies to all individuals, groups and organisations operating within the jurisdictions of Ukhrul, Kamjong and Saikul.

The order states that the NVG had received reports alleging that certain individuals from both Naga and non-Naga communities were continuing to collaborate with Kuki groups despite the boycott announced by the Tangkhul Naga Long on February 25, 2026.

Describing the reported activities as a matter of serious concern, the Eastern Command stated that such actions would no longer be tolerated. It warned that anyone found violating the TNL’s directive would face punitive measures and directed all concerned to comply with the order in letter and spirit.

The NVG further instructed community organisations, institutions and individuals within the affected areas to ensure strict adherence to the directive, stating that any breach would invite action under its enforcement mechanism. The order described compliance as mandatory for all concerned.

The directive comes amid continuing tensions in parts of Manipur’s hill districts, where relations between Naga and Kuki communities remain strained following recent incidents of violence and longstanding political and ethnic differences. The latest order is likely to further heighten tensions in the affected areas.
