Nunkhal villagers threatened to change document of Jiribam District and to procure from Tamenglong District

The villagers of Nunkhal village, a remote village of Jiribam District which is situated around 15 km towards the eastern side from proper Jiribam adjacent to Tamenglong district boundary has threatened to change the documentation of Jiribam District and to procure from Tamenglong District.
Expressing their dissatisfaction, the Nunkhal villagers said a team of police claiming to be from Tamenglong District visited their village and instructed them that the area of Nunkhal village falls under Tamenglong district, so they (villagers) have to change the document and voter enrolment of Jiribam and to procure from Tamenglong District, however the villagers refutes their claim.
After getting the report of the incident, a team of Jiri Development Organisation along with members from various CSOs of Jiribam district visited the spot of Nunkhal village where they found a residence of Tamenglong District dwelling at one of eastern hillock of Nunkhal village. After conversation with the JDO members, the resident of Tamenglong district vacated from the place.
Speaking to the correspondent of Imphal Times, the President of Jiri Development Organisation N. Sadananda Meetei said amidst the boundary dispute between Jiribam with neighbouring district, some people encroached the land of Jiribam District and set the signboard in their district name which brought unhappiness among the people of Jiribam. “ During such controversial land dispute situation, the D.C of Tamenglong District sent a police team to Nunkhal village and threatened the villagers to change their document within 10 days and to procure from Tamenglong  district”, Sadananda said.
He added, in Jiribam district people from different communities reside in peace and harmony. However, if such disagreement brought any conflict and untoward incidents among the people, who will be responsible for that, he queried.
Sadananda further added the areas which they claim for Tamenglong district is under the village No.41 of Jiribam revenue district. “Such controversial land disputes need to be brought to an amicable settlement by both sides administration for the communal harmony of the people”, He added.
