Imphal, June 14:
The Naga Students Federation (NSF) had appealed for sincerity in the process of the ongoing Indo-Naga political issue.
In a detailed letter to the PM, the NSF urged them to allow them to express specifically, based on ground realities, the divisive role played by various GOI agencies.
The NSF stated that the entire Naga homeland has been militarised during the last 75 years since India’s independence. We are aware of two (2) ceasefires and peace negotiations between the government of India (GOI) and the leaders of the Naga National Movement. We have only heard stories about the first ceasefire, but we, the Naga generation, are now living through the second. We’ve also heard and read about previous agreements and Accords that were imposed and superimposed to bring in so-called “peaceful solutions” that created more problems and conflicts rather than resolved them.
Following the departure of the British colonials from Naga Country, the Government of India unleashed the “dogs of war” armed with the most draconian laws, including the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 (AFSPA). The AFSPA was and continues to be harmful to human rights. This act has been and continues to be used against innocent Naga civilians, with the most recent examples being the Oting massacre on December 4 and the Mon killing on December 5, 2021.
In light of this, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), which represents the aspirations of the Naga youth and student community, arbitrarily divided by colonial forces into four Indian states and two international countries, would like to state categorically that it is the government of India’s insincerity of approach that has resulted in this dire situation.
The NSF appeals to PM Modi to allow them to state unequivocally that, in the current situation, the NSF fears that the GOI will fail to honor its commitment and demonstrate its utmost sincerity by ensuring the rights and dignity of the Naga people. The NSF strongly believes that a lack of commitment to solving the problem be disastrous.
NSF further stated that the younger generation of Nagas has faith in you as the tallest leader of the world’s largest democracy to bring about lasting peace and justice in our Naga homeland through your solid political will to resolve the protracted Indo-Naga political issue. We respectfully request that your office intervene to prevent such elements from exacerbating the crisis, which will only exacerbate the ongoing peace process, by taking direct control of the situation in the letter and spirit in which the ceasefire and political talks were declared and initiated, and that the talks be held without conditions and at the highest level.
