NSCN-K arrested with extortion-related items

An active cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) was arrested by security forces along National Highway-37 under the jurisdiction of Kaimai Police Station in Tamenglong district, police said on Saturday.

According to a police statement, the arrest was made on August 1. The arrested individual has been identified as Lungthaukhon Panmei (32), a resident of Oinamlong village in Tamenglong district.

Police said security personnel recovered several items from his possession, including one Baofeng handheld radio, 13 receipt memos bearing the name of the “Government of the Republic of Nagaland”, seven tokens carrying the same seal, and cash amounting to Rs. 2,800.

The seized receipt books and tokens are suspected to have been used for unlawful collection activities. Further investigation into the case is underway, police added.
