NSCN–IM condemns travel ban on NPMHR leader

Special Correspondent
Ukhrul, April 18:

In a strongly worded condemnation, the Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP) of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN) has denounced the travel restrictions imposed by Indian immigration authorities on Neingulo Krome, Secretary General of the Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR).
The NSCN-IM stated that barring Krome from international travel reflects the Indian government’s ongoing attempts to stifle the voices of the Naga indigenous people and prevent them from engaging with other indigenous communities across Asia. Describing the action as “suppressive and oppressive,” the NSCN-IM accused India of violating the basic human rights of the Naga people.
“This is the harsh reality the Nagas are made to go through time and again,” the statement said, adding that the Indian state is deliberately obstructing the Nagas from asserting their identity and rightful place on the international stage.
The NSCN-IM further criticized India’s claim of being the world’s largest democracy, stating that it “falls apart” when measured against true democratic principles, particularly in its treatment of indigenous populations. “India today is, thus, no longer the world’s largest democracy,” the statement declared.
The group also raised serious concerns about the Indian government’s apparent fear of the international community learning about the historic Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015, between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN -IM). They argued that India’s recent actions contradict its own earlier efforts to give the agreement global visibility.
Reiterating its call for India to honor the Framework Agreement, the NSCN urged the government to stop obstructing the Naga people’s rights to self-determination, dignity, and cultural identity.
Expressing solidarity with Neingulo Krome, the NSCN described him as a symbol of the Naga people’s ongoing struggle for human rights and political recognition. “His voice echoes the historical and political rights of the Nagas,” the statement concluded, denouncing what it called India’s targeting of a prominent figure.
