The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has alleged that Indian security forces are providing protection to Kuki armed groups operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement, even as it strongly condemned the killing of two civilians on April 18 near Yaolen Kuki Village.
In a statement, the NSCN-IM claimed that the “flagrant actions” of Kuki militants are being carried out under the shelter of security forces, warning that such developments signal a serious breakdown of the state mechanism. It further alleged that there are growing local reports and testimonies pointing to collusion between security forces and Kuki armed cadres, a situation it said is contributing to instability in the region.
The group identified the victims as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao of Tashar Village and Yaruingam Vashum of Kharasom CC Village, both described as civilians. It termed the killings “brutal” and held Kuki SoO cadres responsible, stating that the incident has pushed tensions beyond tolerable limits.
According to the NSCN-IM, the alleged nexus between security forces and Kuki armed groups is part of a larger design to undermine the political situation in Naga-inhabited areas and destabilize the region. The statement also accused the Government of India of pursuing policies that echo colonial-era strategies aimed at weakening the Naga movement.
Warning of consequences, the NSCN-IM stated that continued provocations may compel the Nagas to adopt “all available defensive measures” to safeguard their land and interests.
The group, while condemning the loss of innocent lives, called for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the incident.
