National Research Center (NRC) Canchipur today condoled the demise of Dr. Yanglem Mani Khuman. Dr. Khuman passed away on March 18 at around 2:30 pm at RIMS Hospital while undergoing treatment for an ailment.
In a condolence message, the NRC recalled Dr. Mani Khuman’s selfless sacrifice for the unity of Manipur. Dr. Y. Mani Khuman was a Homeopathy doctor and a sportsman. Throughout his career, he worked for the upliftment of society by encouraging youth to remain healthy.
The NRC stated that the late Dr. Mani Khuman was the founder of the Lanmei Thanbi Journal, which was published during 1980s. He led the 31-day Chandel expedition in October 1986 to promote a sense of nationalism and the integrity of the state. Dr. Mani was also the founder of the All Manipur Ethnical and Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) in 1992 and played a significant role in the formation of the All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO). Dr. Mani Khuman served as the Vice President of AMUCO from 2003 and later as its President from 2013 to 2016. He continued to serve as the advisor of AMUCO until his last breath.
The NRC also mentioned that Dr. Mani was the convenor of the Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) from 2017 to 2019. He was the founder of the United Clubs Bishnupur and the Meira Paibis of Bishnupur district. Additionally, he served as the president of Youth Foundation Fitness Service (YOFFS).
