NPP Manipur condemns Kanto Sabal arson

The National People’s Party (NPP), Manipur State Unit, has strongly condemned the burning of houses at Kanto Sabal village near Leimakhong Army Camp, describing the incident as a grave act of violence that has raised serious concerns over the safety of civilians living in vulnerable and buffer areas.

In a statement issued by State Unit President Lorho S. Pfoze, the party alleged that the houses in the Meitei village were set ablaze by suspected Kuki militants in broad daylight. It said the incident was particularly alarming as it occurred in close proximity to the Leimakhong Army Camp, one of the state’s major military installations.

The party said the deliberate targeting of the village, which resulted in the destruction of homes and displacement of families, was an attack on peace, humanity and communal coexistence in Manipur. It added that such incidents undermine ongoing efforts to restore normalcy and rebuild trust among communities.

Calling for immediate action, the NPP urged the State Government, the Central Government and the security forces to provide prompt relief and rehabilitation to the affected families, conduct a thorough and time-bound investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible, and strengthen security arrangements in and around vulnerable villages to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Expressing solidarity with the affected residents of Kanto Sabal, the party appealed to all communities to reject violence and work collectively towards ensuring lasting peace, harmony and stability in Manipur.
