The National People’s Party (NPP), Manipur State Unit, has condemned the reported attack on Art and Culture and Tourism Minister Loken Khuraijam, who is also the MLA of Wangoi Assembly Constituency, at Wangoi Makha Leikai around 10.30 am on October 25.
In a press release, NPP State Secretary (Publicity) Kh. Chaoton Singh stated that the Minister was visiting the locality to inspect ongoing developmental works, including roads, drainage and other public infrastructure, when the incident occurred.
The party described the incident as condemnable, stating that targeting a public representative while discharging official responsibilities reflected an unfortunate trend of political intolerance.
The NPP also expressed concern over the reported use of physical violence, stones and other objects, maintaining that political differences should not be used to justify violence or intimidation in a democratic society.
According to the release, no injuries were reported, with the timely intervention of the Minister’s personal security officer (PSO) helping ensure his safety.
The party appealed to the people of Wangoi Assembly Constituency to maintain peace and exercise restraint, urging all concerned to resolve differences through peaceful and democratic means to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
