NPP calls for due process in JNU case involving Bimol Akoijam

The National People’s Party (NPP), Manipur State Unit, has called for fairness and restraint in the case involving Inner Manipur MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who is facing sexual harassment allegations being examined by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

In a statement, NPP Manipur spokesperson Jaya Khangembam said sensitive matters of this nature must be handled responsibly, with due regard for established institutional procedures and the rule of law.

She said the matter was reportedly under consideration by JNU’s Internal Committee, while Dr Akoijam was pursuing legal remedies. He urged all concerned to allow the institutional inquiry and legal proceedings to run their course without drawing premature conclusions.

Jaya Khangembam clarified that the party’s position should not be construed as indifference or inaction, maintaining that fairness must be ensured for everyone involved while the process remains ongoing.

She also urged political parties to exercise restraint in commenting on sensitive matters involving ongoing inquiries and legal proceedings, stressing the need to respect the independence of the institutions concerned.

The NPP Manipur State Unit reiterated its commitment to fairness, accountability and the rule of law, calling for a sensitive and responsible approach until the appropriate processes determine the outcome of the case.
