Northeast Youth Bodies Resolve to Work for Peace & Brotherhood; “Father of Manipur Social Workers Award Presented to Prof. Okram Churamani”

Imphal,Jan.31: The first ever North East Youth Convention, Participated by the members of fifteen non-governmental Organizations and many Social Activists resolved to work together to bring peace and tranquillity across the region. The Convention was organised by Manipuri Youths’ Front Assam (MYFA) in Collaboration with North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) and Youths’ Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) at Tourist Lodge and BR Ambedkar Bhavan in Silchar from January 27th to 29th. The three day long Convention adopted a roadmap and a common vision towards strengthening policy framework to address the burning issues of the Northeastern region. They adopted a declaration based on the guidelines of Global Forum on youth, peace and security which was held at Amman in Jordan. It is mentionable that Prof. Okram Churamani Singh who has been dedicating his whole life for the well being of the society was presented the “Farther of Manipuri Social Worker Award” in the Convention. U.Jenisan of YEPHR told the media persons here that they have chalked out a charter of demands after holding discussions among the representatives from various parts of the region. We will submit a memorandum detailing our demands to the prime minister of India Narendra Modi.it will also be sent to the chief ministers of all the seven Northeastern states, he added. The Convention urged the state governments as well as the centre to develop a regional and national policy framework recognizing and addressing the specific needs assets, potential and diverse identities of Youths’ in conflict and post conflict scenarios by 2020. All the state governments and the centre were urged to establish dialogue with young people on issues of peace and Security. The Convention also discussed about the women rights in details and demanded implementation of internationally agreed commitments to promote and protect the rights of women and prevent gender based discrimination.it laid stress on exemplary punishment for the perpetrators gender based violence. The representatives of the youth Organizations under representatives of the youth Organizations underscored the importance of qualitative educational empowerment to be given to the girls of the region.The Government also must employment opportunities for the youths of the Northeastern region, Jenisan said. The program was participated by Karbi Student Association (Assam), All Tiprasa Student Association (Tripura), Borok Peoples’ Human Rights Organisation (Tripura), Kairembikhok Students’ and Club (Manipur), Northern Assam Students’ Association (Assam), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (Assam), Barak Human Rights Protection Committee (Assam), All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (Assam), All Barak Youth Students Association (Assam), All Assam Students’ Union (Assam), All Manipur Student Union (Manipur), All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (Karbianglong District), People Science Society, Youths’ Forum for Protection of Human Rights, North East Dialogue Forum, and other human rights activists and youth activists of the region.
