No let up in ILPS protests; Agitators storm BJP, Congress office

Imphal, May 8: Day after the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) concluded its 42 hours public curfew, large number of ILPS demand supporters today thronged to the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh, at Nityapat Chuthek Imphal at around noon. The supporters mostly women volunteers shouted slogans demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state converting the 3 ILPS related Bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly into Act. The agitator also demanded a clear stand of the BJP.
Youth leader of BJP Manipur Pradesh, who was inside the office at the time came out and tried to calm the anger of the ILPS demand supporters. He told the agitators about the party stand on ILPS saying that the BJP Manipur Pradesh always stand with the people of the state. He said the Bills is pending for approval of the President of India and urging the union government is upto the state government. He said BJP Manipur Pradesh is extending all possible assistance to any move by the state government for getting assent of the three Bills. He said if state government initiated a move to form a common platform for all political party to jointly move the issue then BJP Manipur Pradesh is ready.
Later, after getting assurance from the BJP leaders the women Volunteers of the BJP then proceeded towards congress Bhavan at BT road. In front of the Congress Bhavan the women volunteers of the JCILPS shouted slogans for introduction of the ILPS Bills. While demanding the congress party to make clear stand to the issue of ILPS, the women agitators slammed the irresponsible congress leaders who remain quit and ignorant to the demand of the people.
None of the representatives of the Congress came out to console the agitators. As the tension of the agitator runs high the police deployed there timely intervene them and prevented them from doing any untoward incident. Later, they were driven out from the area.
Speaking to reporters , women volunteers of JCILPS said that there will be no let up to the demand of the ILPS in the state. She said it is a fact that the 3 Bills is being awaited for getting consent of the President, but what about the three points agreed to constitute by the state government. By not initiating any measures to constitute the population commission or about the commission for checking of the migrant labour agrees upon it is clear that the Ibobi led congress government is not interested to the peoples’ demand for introduction of ILPS in the state.
