Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam has said no act of violence would be allowed to derail the state’s efforts towards peace and normalcy, following the killing of four people in separate incidents in Tamenglong and Noney districts on Sunday.
Reacting to the incidents, Govindas said violence against civilians was unacceptable and directed authorities to ascertain the facts, identify those responsible and take action according to law.
“I have directed the authorities concerned to take all necessary measures to ascertain the facts, identify those responsible and ensure that the law takes its course without fear or favour,” he said in a post on X.
The minister said he was deeply anguished by the attack at Tollen Kuki village, where Lhingjangai Singsit was killed and her husband, Seineih Singsit, and their infant son were injured after suspected militants opened fire at their residence. Seineih later succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a hospital in Silchar, Assam.
In another incident, a woman and a man were shot dead at Longpi village under Nungba police station in Noney district at around 3.30 pm on Sunday.
Govindas said those responsible would be pursued and held accountable, asserting that the recent incidents would not be allowed to undermine efforts to restore peace in the state.
“The law will prevail, justice will be pursued, and peace will be protected,” he said.
