Nisa Bandh Cell appeals for support to Anti-Drug operations in Chandel

The Nisa Bandh Cell, Chandel, has appealed to all communities in the district to extend full cooperation in the ongoing anti-drug operations and to refrain from creating disturbances that could derail efforts to combat the menace.
According to a press release issued by the Nisa Bandh Cell, the organisation was set up with the mandate of the people of Chandel to protect the youth from drug and alcohol abuse, as well as other intoxicants such as tobacco products. The Cell has been working for several years towards the eradication of substance abuse in the district.
Highlighting recent developments, the release stated that Chandel Police has been actively involved in nabbing individuals associated with the drug trade, irrespective of community affiliations. However, the release expressed concern over an incident on the evening of October 1 at Longja village in Sajik Tampak area, where police personnel were allegedly attacked and vehicles damaged by a group of womenfolk and volunteers while attempting to arrest suspects linked to the drug network.
Terming the incident “unfortunate and unwanted,” the Nisa Bandh Cell appealed to the people of Chandel to refrain from obstructing anti-drug operations, cautioning that such actions may be seen as indirectly supporting the drug business.
The press release further stressed that the anti-drug movement is not the responsibility of any single community but a collective responsibility of all communities in the district. It reiterated that the operation will continue in the future and should not obstruct while nabbing the persons involved in the Drug Menace’s network.
