The Dalit Sahitya Academy, Manipur held the observance of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar- 2015 at Kuki Inn here today at Babupara.
Speaking as resource person, social activist Ningthouja Lancha said that observance of Irabot Day on the day of his birth and death is not the real meaning of the remembering the pioneer, who fought against the oppressors.
Speaking about the works and contributions made by Irabot, he said that if Irabot was alive today, the people of Manipur would not have had to face such social unrest.
“The present unrest in the state is due to a leadership vacuum. The issue of illegal migrants and social turmoil would have been averted if he was alive today”, he said.
He also appealed to all the people of Manipur to follow the path of Irabot and his dream to regain sovereignty of Manipur.
He also said that paying floral tribute and singing songs in his name would serve the purpose of observing Irabot Day.
Floral tribute was paid in front of the photo of Irabot and Ambedkar.
An anthology of poetry ‘Thamoigi Puya’, written by Mahendrakumar Singh, National Secretary of Dalit Sahitya Academy was also released by Dr S Longjamba, Associate Professor, DM College of Arts on the occasion. Awards were also presented to distinguished dalit workers and eminent scholars.
