Niki Sumi of NSCN/GPRN steps in for peace talk a day after he was elected as President

Imphal, Dec 19: 

In yet another major achievement of the India government, a leader of another faction of the NSCN-GPRN, which had been defected from the major NSCN-K had been switched to join the ongoing peace talk with other Naga National Political Groups (NNPG).

President of another NSCN/GPRN group, Niki Sumi, which had formed his own group after differences with the leadership of the NSCN-K, led by Chairman Yung Aung , around June/July this year.

According to a press statement issued by the Niki Sumi group , the faction from the NSCN –K has elected Lt. Gen. (rtd) Nyemlang Konyak Naga as the Chairman and Starson Lamkang Naga as General Secretary/Ato Kilonser (prime minister) .

A press statement issued on December 18, by the party had stated that General (Retd. Niki Sumi) has been elected as the President of the organisation (NSCN/GPRN) unanimously. The press statement was signed by one Nikato Pilot Sumi, Dy. Kilonser, MIP, NSCN/GPRN.

A highly reliable source said that the newly elected leader of the group defected from the NSCN-K, Niki Sumi (President) NSCN/GPRN had been taken by a high level team of Indian Army towards Phek district in Nagaland. The Niki Sumi group has been reportedly taking shelter at Amimi village in Myanmar’s Sagaing Division, which is under Lesi Township and declared as Naga Self-Administered Zone in side Myanmar.

The source further added that a team of high level Indian army received Niki Sumi at Indo Myanmar border in Phek district, Nagaland and he is likely to proceed for New Delhi to hold talk with the Indian Government authority for joining the Naga peace talk which is just at doorstep for final solution. 

It may be mention that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting the state on December last week likely on Dec 27 in Manipur. While the state government had stated that it has nothing to do with the Naga Solution, but source said that the visit’s main priority is the issue for settlement of the Naga Issue.
